| I AM 7 WEEKS PREGNANT AND IM SO TIRED I DONT EVEN WANT TO GET OUT OF BED, DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS? |

Fatigue early on can be very bad. This is usually a result of the increased production of the hormone progesterone. Hard to get out of bed, tiring easily with little activity, feeling the extreme need to just lie back down at any given time of the day...are typical around your period of pregnancy. It can be more severe in cases of more than one fetus developing as well. (Just learned that one the hard way...LOL) If your fatigue is feeling debilatating or is interfering with your daily life too much...please call your ob/dr and let them know of your concerns. Don't worry that it might seem "stupid" or "insignificant seeming"...very extreme fatigue could be signaling possible depression. That happens often, seems to be triggered by the excess hormones as well. Also, other problems such as anemia can trigger tiredness.
If it is so-called normal fatigue...it will begin lessening as the weeks go by and should almost disappear by the time you get to 11 or 12 weeks.
Rest often as able. Don't feel guilty about it...your body is doing some pretty amazing stuff right now and it is Hard Work! Eat right and definately make sure you are either taking a prenatal vitamin or if you don't have a prescription for them yet, you can either take a good multivitamin supplement or simply childrens chewable vitamins (these are perfect if you can't seem to tolerate prenatals well). Drink lots of fluids and just try to take it easy and relax.
But, as I said earlier, don't hesitate to ask this same question to your doctor or even a nurse at your clinic/hospital/etc...even if you have not scheduled an exam yet...ask away...that is what they are there for.

Hello pame35 Welcome to the forum,
If you are not having any other medical complications such as anemia or depression the tiredness is nothing to worry about. I suggest just getting up and going. Make sure you take plenty of breaks during the day, go to bed earlier and get a full nights sleep.
I remember being so tired in the first trimester, I would doze off sitting straight up on my stool in front of a laboring mother I was caring for during my shift. She would have the lights dim, soft music going, and the rhythmic thumping of the heartbeat on the fetal monitor. Man, I would nod off in a heartbeat . I started taking what my charge nurse and I called "smoking breaks". We felt that all employees are allowed to take several smoking breaks to go out of the hospital and slowly damage their body every few hours while another nurse watched their patient. So I would take a "smoke break", go to an empty room or lounge and take a 10-15 minute power nap on a couch or recliner. Not always possible at every job but it really helped me. Hopefully you can work something out that helps you. If you cannot sleep in your office on the job. Leave your office for lunch and rest in your car, go home, etc. |
