| Hi I am new here and i am 8 weeks pregnant, my Dr. has me on Toprol XL for it. I was wondering if the meds would harm my baby or if it would be ok to keep taking them. |

| I forgot to add that I don't get to see my OB until June 27, but I have been to the Health Department here. |

Hello Mechelle,
It has been about 1 month. How is the pregnancy going?
Who prescribed the Toprol? If the blood pressure doctor prescribed the medication I would make sure he knows you are pregnant. I would also let the obstrician know you are taking Toprol as well. I would continue to take the medication but also just clarify with your doctors that it is safe. To just stop the medication without consulting your doctors could be dangerous. |

some tips - # Before you become pregnant, work with your doctor to get your blood pressure within a normal range. # Help manage high blood pressure with a healthy diet, regular exercise and weight loss. # Always take your blood pressure medicines as your doctor prescribes. # Talk to your doctor about taking high blood pressure medication during pregnancy. # Once you are pregnant, visit your doctor regularly to closely monitor your blood pressure, both at the doctor's office and at home. # Talk to your doctor about kidney disease or any other health conditions that may impact your blood pressure. # If you develop symptoms of preeclampsia -- including headaches, rapid weight gain, visual problems or swelling of the hands or face -- contact your doctor immediately. |

Any medication you take during pregnancy can affect your baby. Although some medications used to lower blood pressure are considered safe during pregnancy, others — such as angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) and renin inhibitors — are generally avoided during pregnancy
