I also like unique names but my concern is always what will other people call my child. Will it be Olivia not Livia and Amber not Ember. Then I try to think like a cruel kid and come up with "nicknames" Like Spark not Ember. Having said all of that, I actually like Ember and Livia. Good luck. You will know the right name when you find it.

I like Fleur and Bastian. Of course I don't think they would fly in the states espcially in Texas. It is amazing how differant names are even between two countries that speak the same language.

Thanks Melissa, yes it is strange how different names are accepted in different countries. Even local countries, on a baby name site there was a marked difference in the most popular names between England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales and each one is one a few hundred miles distant |

Hello Kia,
I too like Fleur. It is unique. Just don't put Fleur and Lily together. That would be naming her flower flower .
As for the boy name, Bastian is nice. Harvey sounds old to me. As for Tyler, Hayden, and Kyle are extremely popular names here in the US and I like to go with more obsolete names.
My 2 are boys and are named Gerrit Johann and Ethan Philipp |

| I also like the more obscure names. My son is Nolan Isaac. In his daycare class of 30 kids there is not a Nolan or an Isaac. It is nice to know that he won't be on of 5 Matt's or Chris's as he grows. |

Bastian - came from the film "the never ending story" And Fleur is from one of Jilly Coopers books in the Riders/Rivals series. They are my fave from the list. Have agreed with himself that we will both make independent lists, any name on both automatically goes through to the semi final add to that any on each others we hadn't thought of but both like. Then narrow those down by eliminating any that give dodgy initials or just sound wrong with the surname. I also want it to be fairly easy to understand - I spend half my life telling people on the phone my name isn't bethany, or daphne and yes I am staff but it isn't my name, and of course in my kiddie writing Stephanie took up a whole line. Oh and any possible irritating nick names - Stephie Grrr especially when my nan decided to use it in front of a boyf when I was about 17 And my littlest bro couldn't get his tongue round it so i became Step - he still calls me that even though he is 17 now! |

I love that movie "The Never Ending Story" I hope your partner in crime likes Bastian as much as you. My husband and I always had a REALLY hard time deciding on girls names, too many choices I guess.
My favorite girl name is Abigail (couldn't use that because it was his ex's dog) He liked Moni for a girl (I was willing to compromise but did not really like it because of the Billy Idol song "Moni Moni")
We did not know if we were having a boy or girl so it was convenient we had boys since we had names we both liked. |

Actually got himself talking about names today He quite likes Fleur Lana for a girl and Harvey Bastian for a boy But then again it may pop out on the day and the name really not fit I'm pretty sure Fleur is a stayer though - lets hope its a girl the choice is so much easier - especially when said out loud. |

OK to me Raine is a Boys name! i know a family of three and the 2 boys are Raine and Brook and the daughters name is Serene! I actually se them all as universal on the boys names. I have to decide on a girls name by the end of October. Here are some of the more origonal names I have come across. There all girls names too. Abalonia Dorcas Chaviva Concordia Faustine Galatea Galiena Jadwige Jette Ketura Kinneret Lalage Mandisa Panphila placidia Pureza Saskia Theone Twila Vanora Wilona Wren wynne Zaidia Zandra Zora theres tons of them but these ones stuck out the most to me. |

Except for Saskia and possibly wren or wilona most of these names wouldn't hold up in UK. Although some are very pretty, some would give a child a lot to live up to. One baby magzine I was reading today suggested names based on the "greek" interest of recent films and one for girls was Hera - she was a baddie!!!! really evil step mom to Hercules |

The one that had me say NO WAY is Dorcas. In the US Dork is a derogatory term and a kid would never live that down.
I like Twila, Saskia (friends child), Theone if you pronounce the last e with a soft e sound (Phonetically/ Thee-o-nah)

LOL Himself actaully discussed names now (I discovered the first time round that he was actually just saying yes to everything I said and not hearing a word as he had headphones on Here's his choices Ellie-Mae (Ellen is my middle name and Mae was his aunty) Oliver Flynn or Oliver Ryan. Ellie-Mae is growing on me and most of my work colleagues like it. |

Hi Kia,
I think Ellie-Mae is nice. It sounds very southern. I live in Texas, deep in the south so many girls have a first name which is 2 names hyphenated. I do have to say hear in Texas I probably would not name my child that because of the Texas drawl that would be added. However, in the UK I am sure you are safe.
I like Oliver Flynn better than Oliver Ryan. The hard Y is too firm with all the soft tones in Oliver. |

| My husband and I tried to choose a name that wasnt well known in the UK for our son, we called him Ehren. I believe in the USA its a bit more common, would be interested to know if this is the case. |

| It would depend how the name is pronounced. We have a fairly common boys name spelled Aaron which is also a girls name (spelled Erin). But I still like the name. |

Is the spelling of Austin going to be Austyne? Or are you going to pronounce it differently then the traditional way?
I like both names however feel that flipping the boys name to Austin Ryan rolls off the tongue more easily. However, I do not know what the baby's last name will be so that may make me change my mind back to Ryan Austin. |

| I too have spent a long time coming up with a name for my soon to be daughter. I took my husbands and I's favorite time of the year and made two words into a name. I can't share it with you now. (Tradition states I don't say the name to anyone until the little one is here) But I am happy to hear that others are creative about names out there! |

Oh I just LOVE the name Harmony Jade. I just had a baby girl in October and we named her after her great-grandmothers: Olivia Pauline. I, on the other hand, was named after an extremely depressing movie that John Denver produced then later had a song after. My poor mother had to find something to put with it and so I was named (Stephanie)---Stefane Sunshine. Daddy has always insisted that I be called Sunshine, but I have too many friends that have shortened it to Sunny.
I also went to school with Autumn Brooke, Sommer(summer)Nicole, and Wynter Rose. No our parents were not hippies. HAHAHAHA |
